Pastor Norman S. Meyer

Associate Pastor

Rev. Norman S. Meyer, a 1970 graduate of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO was first called to Plymouth, England. His second call, in 1975, was to St. John's, Union. Pastor and his wife Jane have three adult children and three grandchildren. Pastor Meyer has a great interest in people.

On Oct. 29, 2000, he celebrated with the congregation and community the dedication of the new facility. This is a tremendously exciting new chapter in the ministry of God's people at St. John's with lots of challenges and opportunities. Pastor Meyer's other interests include golf and cutting firewood.

Pastor Meyer has served more than 33 years in ministry among God's precious people at St. John's and those in the Union/Marengo area.

The year 2008 is a transition year; he was installed as Associate Pastor on Sunday, February 24, 2008 and will serve on a half-time basis.

Pastor Caleb J. Schauer

Senior Pastor

Caleb J. Schauer was installed as Senior Pastor on Sunday, February 24, 2008. Pastor Caleb served as St. John’s first associate pastor from September 2006 to February 2008. He was also the second vicar (seminary student intern) from November 2004 until November 2005. He then graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Missouri, August 4, 2006. He was ordained as a minister of The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod on August 13, 2006 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Chugiak, Alaska.

Pastor Caleb is the son of Rev. Ken and Sandi Schauer. Born in Austin, Texas on April 7, 1975; He was baptized in Walburg, Texas, and confirmed in Ashton, Idaho. He attended the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering. Schauer worked for almost five years designing roads and water/sewer lines in Anchorage, Alaska. While there he met Melanie Grunenwald, a Minnesota native; they were married on January 2, 1999.

While living in Alaska, Schauer also worked as a lay assistant with the Alaska Mission for Christ. Working in real ministry situations was, he believes, the primary influence that led to his decision to attend seminary. His vicarage internship experience also offered valuable hands-on experience. He and his family were warmly received. In planning for the future of the congregation, St. John’s voters decided a second pastor would be beneficial, and extended a Call to him.

The Schauer family includes: Malachi, Gideon, Hannah, Gabrielle and Selah (not pictured). They enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking and backpacking. Racquetball and woodworking are also among Pastor Schauer’s favorite activities, while his wife Melanie enjoys gardening and teaching their children.
